Providing Water Supply using a Burrito
Part Four

© 2001 Capt. Willis Lamm, Water Supply Officer, Moraga-Orinda (CA) Fire District

The following procedures are examples of low water pressure evolutions based on the procedures of the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, presented for illustrative purposes.
GETTING WATER USING THE FLOATING PUMP

If wildland units are going to refill using water from the Burrito, the floating pump will be needed for the refilling operation. Practical steps to accomplish this objective are listed below.

  1. Remove the Floto Pump and wye set (double gated wye on a short pigtail.)

  2. Attach the pigtail to the pump.

  3. Open the fuel tank vent and set the choke.

  4. Pull the starter rope until the pump fires. Open the choke and start the pump.

  5. Let the pump idle for a few seconds before placing it in the water.

  6. Carefully slide the pump into the opening of the tank.

    Key Point:

When handling the pump, and especially when removing it from the tank, take note of the muffler location and avoid contacting it!
